Announcement of the Confucius Institute Opening Ceremonies
The Offices of the Chancellor and the Vice Provost for International Programs are proud to announce the official launch of the University of Missouri Confucius Institute on April 8, 2011.
A delegation of Chinese dignitaries is attending this inaugural international event to which we are inviting our campus, community, business, education, and government officials. During their visit, we have scheduled numerous activities and will also showcase MU’s historical links with the People’s Republic of China. At the official Opening Ceremony, we would like to recognize those members of MU and the larger community with personal or professional ties to China.
There are 82 Confucius Institutes in the U.S. and 322 Confucius Institutes around the world. The University of Missouri (MU) in partnership with Shanghai Normal University will establish a Confucius Institute on the MU campus in Columbia. The Confucius Institute will be a platform to promote greater understanding between the U.S., China, and Missouri through Chinese language teaching and learning, resident Chinese teacher preparation, Missouri-China business relationships, and research on issues of mutual interest.
